Our Passion for Coffee and the Journey Behind Prepgear

There’s something special about a good cup of coffee, and for us, it’s about more than just the taste. We’re Ross and Robert, two friends brought together by a shared passion for coffee and a dream of creating something unique. Our journey together started a few years back with Ross’s coffee business and has grown into what we now call Prepgear.

The Start of Something Special

Ross has always had a passion for coffee, and he turned that passion into a business by converting a van into a mobile coffee unit. He began serving freshly brewed coffee to businesses during the week and setting up on the beach at Ayr on weekends, making sure beachgoers and walkers could enjoy a great cup of coffee with a view. Business was booming, and he needed someone who shared his love for coffee. That’s when he reached out, looking for someone to help part-time, and we met. We hit it off right away, and over two years of working together, we built a great partnership that eventually led us to launch Prepgear.

The Inspiration Behind Prepgear

As we continued working in the coffee industry, we started noticing a gap in the market for high-quality, affordable coffee tools. We saw that many of the coffee accessories on the market were either too expensive or difficult to find from UK-based sellers. That inspired us to create Prepgear—a brand that brings premium-quality coffee tools to coffee lovers everywhere at an accessible price point.

Why the WDT Tool?

Our first product is the WDT (Weiss Distribution Technique) tool, which was a game-changer for us both in our own espresso-making. The WDT tool makes coffee distribution more consistent, enhancing the taste and quality of each espresso shot. We tried samples from different manufacturers, and after careful testing and refining, we found a design we loved. It wasn’t always easy managing suppliers and budgets, but with a clear vision and a bit of determination, we brought a tool to market that matches our standards for both quality and style.
